Cozumel Cruise Family Photography: How to Plan a Photoshoot During Your Port Day
Visiting Cozumel on a cruise is already a special experience, but your time on the island can go by incredibly fast.
Between getting off the ship, exploring the island, enjoying the beach and making sure everyone is back onboard on time, it can feel like there is never enough time to do everything.
The good news is that a family photography session in Cozumel can easily be included in your cruise day.
As a local Cozumel photographer, I regularly work with families visiting the island by cruise ship and help them plan relaxed photography sessions around their arrival time, departure schedule and plans for the rest of the day.
Can You Book a Family Photoshoot During a Cruise Stop in Cozumel?
Absolutely.
A photography session does not have to take up your entire day in Cozumel.
Most cruise families choose either a 30-minute Vacation Mini Session or a one-hour Family Beach Session, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the beach, visit a beach club, explore the island or simply relax before returning to the ship.
The most important part is planning the session around your ship’s schedule.
When you contact me, it helps to include:

- Your arrival date in Cozumel
- Your scheduled arrival and departure times
- The number of adults and children
- Your children’s ages
- Your plans for the rest of the day

What Is the Best Time for Cruise Family Photos in Cozumel?
For most cruise visitors, I recommend scheduling the photography session in the morning.
Morning sessions usually offer several advantages:
- Beaches are often quieter
- The temperature can be more comfortable for children
- You have more flexibility if your ship arrives slightly later than expected
- There is still plenty of time to enjoy Cozumel after the session
- You avoid worrying about getting back to the ship at the end of the day
Sunset photography is beautiful in Cozumel, but it is usually better suited for families staying overnight at a hotel, resort or vacation rental.
Most cruise ships leave the island before sunset.
What If My Children Don’t Like Posing?
That is completely normal.
My family sessions are not focused on standing still and smiling at the camera for an entire hour.
We will take some classic family portraits, but we will also walk, play, hug, laugh and let the children interact naturally.

The goal is to create photographs that feel like your family—not a perfectly staged version of it.

Paradise Beach
A great choice if you want to combine your photoshoot with a full beach day. After the session, you can stay and enjoy the beach, pools, food and other facilities.
Playa Uvas
A convenient option with a relaxed beach atmosphere and beautiful Caribbean water. It can work especially well for families who want to enjoy the beach after their photos.
Carlos’n Charlie’s Beach Club
Perfect for families looking for a fun, lively Cozumel experience. You can plan your photos first and then stay for food, drinks and beach activities.
Downtown Cozumel
If you prefer something different from the beach, downtown offers colorful streets, local architecture and a more urban Caribbean feel. It is also a convenient option for families with limited time.
La Caleta
A quieter coastal location with a more natural look. It can be a beautiful option for relaxed family portraits close to town.
Las Casitas
A local seaside area with turquoise water, rocks and a more authentic Cozumel atmosphere. It works well for shorter sessions and families who want something simple and close to downtown.
There are also beautiful public beaches around the island. The best location can vary depending on weather, beach conditions, crowds and your cruise schedule.
When choosing the location for your family photoshoot, I consider:

- Crowd levels
- Your plans before or after the session

Can We Combine the Photoshoot With a Beach Day?
Yes—and this is one of my favorite options for cruise families.
You can schedule your photography session first and then spend the rest of your day enjoying the beach.
For example, families may choose a location near a beach club where they can have lunch, swim, relax and enjoy Cozumel after the photoshoot.
This makes the photography session feel like part of your vacation instead of another activity you have to fit into the day.
What Happens If Our Cruise Schedule Changes?
Cruise itineraries can change, and I understand that this is part of traveling by ship.
If there is a change to your arrival time, please contact me as soon as possible.
Whenever possible, we will adjust the session time according to availability and your updated cruise schedule.
This is also why morning sessions are often the easiest option for cruise visitors: they give us more flexibility during the day.
